Becoming a Contributor and earning with AgentKit: what the program is, what you get, what is still unclear

Article 11/20 in the AgentKit v3 onboarding series. About a 7 minute read.

AgentKit grows because of people who use it every day and then come back to report bugs, send PRs, write skills, and recommend it to friends. I want those people to be recognized with something real: money and benefits, not just a thank-you line in the release note.

This article is about the v3 Contributor program. Like every other article, I state clearly what is settled and what is still being finished.

Contributors page on agentkit.best

1/ What is the Contributor program? 🧪

The contributor loop

The agentkit.best/contributors page has content and a link in the menu bar ("Contribute"), but it is still in draft state (search engines are told not to index it). That means: the program is real, the conditions and benefits are written down, but some operational details are still being settled.

Who can join?

  • Paying customers, including v1/v2 buyers (ClaudeKit, the old AgentKit).

  • Have a GitHub account and a customer identity that can be verified.

  • Get approved by an admin and agree to the program agreement.

How do you apply?

Right now it is sending an email to support@agentkit.best with the subject "AgentKit contributor application". There is no dedicated application form yet.

2/ What do you get?

Tiered referral commission

Tier Commission on net revenue you refer
Contributor 40%
Builder 50%
Core contributor 60%
  • Tiers are reviewed monthly, based on verified contribution points.

  • Higher tiers also require reaching a level of qualifying referral revenue.

  • A tier change only applies to future commissions, with no recalculation of the past.

Keep receiving kit updates without renewing

For as long as you are an active contributor, you keep receiving kit updates without the yearly renewal (see the renewal policy in article 3). Technically, this is a separate "update grant" issued by an admin, with its own expiry.

If you leave the program: every right you purchased stays intact. You simply go back to your normal update window.

3/ What kinds of contribution count?

The program page talks about "verified contribution points", but the point conversion table has not been published. In the meantime, these are the things I know for sure are valuable to the project, and all of them leave a verifiable trail:

  1. Bug reports with evidence. Use ak feedback --type bug --attach-diagnostics (redacted diagnostics), or open an issue on GitHub with the command, the output and the version.

  2. Skill improvement proposals from real sessions. Run /ak-dogfood after a working session, and it turns the places where the agent went in circles into concrete proposals.

  3. Writing and publishing skills on SkillX (see article 5).

  4. Writing guides and case studies using AgentKit on real projects.

  5. Referring customers, which counts directly toward commission.

4/ What about the old Referral program?

This is where it gets confusing, so I will say it plainly: there are currently two programs running side by side.

Referral (old) Contributor (v3)
Who Any user with an account Paying customers, approved
Commission 20% by default 40% / 50% / 60%
Referred person Gets 20% off Not announced
Payout $50 minimum, PayPal or bank transfer Not announced
Update rights No Yes, while active

The relationship between the two programs (for example: if you move up to Contributor, does your old referral link automatically get the higher commission) is not explained on any page. I put it in the open questions list and in the gap report. When there is an official answer, this article will be updated.

Track commissions and payouts on the account pages: /account/commissions and /account/payouts.

5/ An honest word

I built this program for two reasons.

One, fairness. Many of you have given AgentKit more than the money you paid. Careful bug reports, great skills, referring a whole team. You deserve a share.

Two, sustainability. A product that depends on the strength of one person will slow down sooner or later. A community with real motivation goes further.

But I also don't want to promise things that are not settled. So the "not announced" cells above stay as "not announced". If you are interested, send the application email and ask directly about those points. The answers will be added here.
